1SG Tommy Wooten (United States Army, retired), 65, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Fort Payne, Alabama, he was a resident of Hinesville for 30 years. A veteran of the Persian Gulf War, First Sergeant Wooten served in the Army for 21 years until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandson.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Chong Wooten, and children, son, Jeff Wooten of Brunswick, GA, and daughters, Kathy Preble of Darien, GA, and Lacoma Luehrman of Marietta, GA; grandson, Ryan Luehrman; three sisters, Laura Robinson, Lynn Castleberry, and Kim Castleberry, all of Chattanooga; two brothers, Roy Castleberry of Chattanooga and Jimmy Wooten of Ft. Payne, AL; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 am, Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Burial with Full Military Honors will be at 1pm in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.
