Jimmie Downs, Jr.

Jimmie R. Downs, Jr., 61, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at home.

He was a life long resident of Hinesville, a veteran of the United States Navy and United States Air Force, and a member of Crossroads Holy Church of God.  He worked in law enforcement for many years in the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department and the Ludowici Police Department.  He loved to ride motorcycles and was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Falcons, and the Atlanta Braves.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dustin Allen Downs.

Surviving are his children, Jimmie R. Downs, III (Krista), of Galloway, OH, and Mary Elizabeth Downs of Hinesville; parents, Jimmie, Sr., and Betty Downs of Hinesville; daughter-in-law, Megan Downs of Richmond Hill; two grandchildren, Abbey and Reilly; brother, Richard Allen Downs (JoAnn) of Jesup; and three sisters, Deborah Diamond (Bob) of Hinesville, Donna Young (Jeff) of Hinesville, and Teresa White (Dave) of Savannah.  He is lovingly remembered by Cynthia Ashley and Terri Downs, as well as several other family members.

The funeral service will be held at 11am, Monday, January 23, 2017, at Crossroads Holy Church of God.  Visitation will be for one hour prior.  Burial with Military Honors will be at 10am, Wednesday, January 25, 2017, in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.
