Don Watkins went home to be with the Lord on November 23, 2020.
Don was born in West Columbia, SC, on February 4, 1943. He was the third youngest child of J.B. and Edna Watkins of West Columbia. He attended Brookland Grammar School. He was an all-star baseball player for the Bar-B-Q Inn. He graduated from Brookland-Cayce High School in 1961. He attended the University of South Carolina until 1963 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as a military policeman.
In 1966 he married Linda Wedincamp of Midway, GA. He was employed as a Management Analyst at Ft. Stewart, GA, from 1967 until his retirement in 1997. He was a member and deacon of Midway First Baptist Church. Don loved to go fishing, working on cars, and woodworking. He could always go for a good glass of sweet tea. He also enjoyed going walking and playing with his dog Max. Don was a kind soul who never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold Watkins of Pelion, SC, and George Williams Watkins of West Columbia, SC; and his beloved spouse, Linda in 2011.
Don is survived by his son, Bruce Watkins (Carol); grandchildren, Madison and Graham Watkins of Athens, GA; sister, Mrs. June Shull of Lexington, SC; brother, Bobby Watkins of West Columbia, SC; in-laws, Billy and Betty Wedincamp of Midway, GA, Mrs. Anne Wedincamp of Glenville, GA, and Margie Wedincamp of Glenville, GA; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held for Don on Monday, December 21, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Midway First Baptist Church with Brother J.C. Wright officiating.
