John Shuman passed away, leaving behind a loving family and many cherished memories. He was the beloved husband of Lavine B. Shuman, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He loved his family deeply and enjoyed spending time with them. Some of his favorite pastimes included cooking, fishing, hunting, crabbing, camping, and watching sports with his children. His love for his family and the memories they shared together will forever be treasured.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lavine B. Shuman; his children, Denise Haire of Claxton, Georgia, Sally Driggers of Fleming, Georgia, John Shuman III and his wife Ramona of Plaquemine, Louisiana, Melissa Beasley and her husband Donald of Fleming, Georgia, and David Shuman of Fleming, Georgia; his daughter-in-law, Peggy Horne; his grandchildren, Shane Patti and his wife Amber, Casey Landon and her husband Cody, Samantha Whaley and her husband James, Jessica Smith and her husband Jeremy, Dustin Shuman and his wife Lene, Katelyn Driggers, Luther Driggers, Rachel Shuman and Chase, and Erica Nelson and her husband Joshua; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his children, Jeanette Wooden, Rodney Clark, Michael Horne, and Matthew Horne; his grandchildren, Bobby Ruth Wooden and Hannah Ruth Sneed; Sally’s husband, Carl Driggers; and 14 brothers and sisters.
John will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Carter Funeral Home starting at 10 a.m.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the Chapel of Carter Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with Rev Chris Howard officiating.
Burial will immediately follow the service at Mt. Olivet Church Cemetery in Fleming, Georgia.
