John D. Tillman, Sr., 77, passed away at home in Midway Thursday, August 8, 2019, surrounded by his family.
A native of Wayne County, he was a resident of Liberty County for more than 52 years and was retired from Interstate Paper after 42 years of service. He was an ordained deacon at Midway First Baptist Church and a former member of Friendship Baptist Church. Mr. Tillman loved his dogs, Tank and Deisel, fishing, and hunting. He was a great husband, father, and provider for his family.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dave Tillman; his parents, John Delma and Arby Tillman; and brothers, Donald and Bill Tillman.
He is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Marlene Tillman; sons, Doug Tillman (Kelly), and Del Tillman (Darrell Burnette); four grandchildren, Lauren Tillman, Leah Roberts (Kevin), D.J. Tillman, and Devin Tillman (Aubree); two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Lucas Roberts; brother, Aubrey Tillman; sister, LaVonne Dent; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Sunday, August 11, 2019, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 11am, Monday, August 12, 2019, at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel with Reverend Ronnie Rentz officiating. Burial will follow in Midway United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be D.J. Tillman, Devin Tillman, Darrell Burnette, Kevin Roberts, Johnny Jackson, and Al Dent. Honorary pallbearers will be Interstate Paper Retirees.
