Life is a steppingstone. A pause before we make it home. Joseph Wade Simmons made it home on December 27, 2020.
Wade was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Russell Simmons and Mary Ann Thomas Simmons; his brother and best friend, Walt Simmons; and his pride and joy poodles, Haley and Samantha, who were all patiently waiting for him to join them.
He leaves behind his sister, Terry Simmons Spyers; sister-in-law, Cheryl Simmons; nephew, Joe Simmons; nieces, Laura Kain and Ashley Spyers; great-nephew, Adler Simmons; and great-niece, Grayson Kain.
Wade was born on May 20, 1958 in Atlanta, Georgia before moving to Savannah, Georgia. He and his family then moved to Florida where he would graduate from Palmetto High School in Miami. Eventually, everyone ended up back in Savannah where he spent the majority of his life. Most recently, Wade resided in Reidsville, Georgia where he developed many long-lasting friendships. Especially during his time working at the Tattnall Healthcare Center.
Wade loved spending time with his family out on the water. He loved the beach and lighthouses. His favorite thing was going out on the boat and fishing with his nephews. He also had quite the green thumb. Especially with his peppers. He loved yard work and landscaping. Wade was meticulous about everything and wasn’t afraid of hard work. He would do anything for anybody and had a heart as big as they come. A person as genuine as Wade is hard to find but even harder to forget.
Wade has chosen to be cremated, and there will not be a memorial service. The family would love for anyone with a fond memory of him to please share in the guestbook. In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to their favorite charity in Wade’s name.
The family also wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Hospice Savannah for their care and compassion. Thanks to all of the people who have traveled from far away to help with his care. Also, most importantly, to his sister, Terry. She has been his rock, throughout his sickness and in life.
