Mary E. Corbitt

Mary Corbitt, born on January 6, 1937, in Hartford, Connecticut, to the late Ethel R. Mielke (St. Germain) and Raymond Mielke, passed away on July 27, 2026, at The Oaks in Pooler, Georgia, under the care of Hospice of Savannah.

Mary was a pioneer of her time, becoming a nurse in the Air Force serving in the 821st Medical Group, where she would meet her future husband, William R. "Bill" Corbitt Jr., whom she dated in secret because officers like Mary could not date enlisted soldiers at the time. After her service, she married Bill and had 37 wonderful years until his passing in 2000. Mary and Bill moved to Hinesville and became members of St. Stephens Catholic Church. Throughout her lifetime, Mary touched the hearts of those around her with her kindness, gentle words, and enduring strength. Her influence will be felt by all who had the privilege to know her.

As we mourn her passing, we also give thanks for the many years she shared with us, the love she gave so freely, and the example she set in all she did. Mary Corbitt's memory will remain a blessing to her family, friends, and many patients, and all who knew her.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, William R. "Bill" Corbitt Jr, and both her parents, Ethel and Raymond Mielk.

Mary is survived by her sons, William R. Corbitt III of Cumming, GA, and Jeffery A. Corbitt and his wife, Toni L. Corbitt, of Rincon, GA. Along with her grandchildren, Savannah M. Corbitt of Cumming, GA, Kristen M. Gray of Harlem, GA, and Shannon V. Gray of Rincon, GA, Mary also leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Jewell Albright of LaGrange, GA, and Shirley Baker of Fernandina, FL.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 3:00 pm at the Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Deacon Doug Delzeith officiating.

Burial will immediately follow the service at the Hinesville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Stephen First Martyr Catholic Church of Hinesville, Georgia, in Mary's name, located at 399 Woodland Drive, Hinesville, Georgia 31313.
