First Sergeant Robert Terry Lewis, USMC/USA, (Retired) passed away on January 19th in Pooler, Georgia, in the care of Hospice Savannah. He was born on September 22, 1947, in Brunswick, Georgia, where he resided until his graduation from Glynn Academy and enlistment in the United States Marine Corps in 1966.

First Sergeant Lewis proudly served as a U.S. Marine drill instructor and completed several combat tours in Vietnam as wire chief. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze stars, Meritorious Unit Commendation, as well as the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. He later transitioned to the United States Army, from which he retired, earning the Army Commendation Medal with three bronze oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with one bronze oak leaf cluster, and the Expert Infantry Badge, as well as other decorations and commendations.

Following his military retirement, 1SG Lewis resided in Richmond Hill, Georgia, with his wife of 43 years, Brigitte, until her passing in 2017.

First Sergeant Lewis loved dogs, coffee, and football. He was an avid parrothead and enjoyed making people laugh. First Sergeant Lewis was preceded in death by his wife, Brigitte; his parents, Albert and Sadie; his brother, Russell; and his sister, Betty Sue. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Torrescano (Jonathan); his granddaughter, Madison; and nieces and nephews, Suzanne, Rhonda, and Rusty.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Graveside services will be held on January 27, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Burnt Church Cemetery in Richmond Hill, Georgia, with Military Honors.
