Mr. Elliott W Godwin, son of the late Mrs. Annie Mildred and Mr. Elliott Godwin, Sr. was born in Clinton, NC on November 26, 1947. He was raised by the late Mr. & Mrs. Eddie Bennett and graduated from JP McCuskey High School, Lancaster, Pa.
After High School, Elliott joined the United States Army and served 22 years retiring as a Sargent First Class. He became a Prince Hall Mason in 1984 and a member of Raymond Bennett Lodge #33 Western Europe, Germany.
In the late 90’s Elliott joined Pleasant Grove AME Church. In 2012 he was admitted into Hourglass Lodge#113 Ludowici, Ga. of the MWPHGL of Georgia where he was an active member. GIG Godwin was a member of the United Supreme Council of Deliberation, Orient of Ga. Baxley Consistory #209 Valley of Baxley.
In 2016 he was elevated to the degree of Honorary Grand Inspector General, the last and highest degree in Masonry. HPP Godwin was a member of Omar Temple #21 Oasis of Savannah, Ga. Desert of Ga. Of the A.E.A.O.N.M.S, Inc. HPP Godwin was the second longest living member of Al Sarrar Shrine Club at the time of his passing. Elliott loved cooking, dancing and entertaining.
He is preceded in death by his parents Mr. & Mrs. Elliott Godwin, Sr. sister Mrs. Lucille Davidson
He was joined into holy matrimony June 28, 1997, to Ms. Toni Starkey He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Toni Godwin. Siblings, sister Mrs. Belinda Robertson (the late Wilbert) brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Dr. Thaddeus Godwin (Eloise). Son, Elliott Corbin, stepdaughter Lakenya Daye Rhone (Carlos) a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His remarkable spirit, generous heart, and unwavering love will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew him.
Family will receive friends on Thursday November 20, 2025 at 6 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Friday November 21, 2025 at Pleasant Grove AME Church at 12 p.m.
Burial will full military honors will take place at 3 p.m. in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, Ga.
