SFC E7, Retired, Waters Lawrence "Shorty" Burdette, a proud veteran of the US Army, entered the Gates of Glory on 17 September 2025 at the age of 92.
The son of Waters L Burdette and Eva Mae Pharr, Waters was born 27 July 1933 and grew up in Fayetteville GA. At the age of 18, Shorty enlisted in the US Army and valued this as his Duty to his Country and attained the rank of SFC E-7. As part of this service, Shorty was with the Engineers, Armor, Air Traffic Control an participated in two tours on duty in the Korean Conflict and 2 tours of Duty in the Vietnam War, and received numerous citations and medals including 4 Bronze stars, two with Valor and the Cross of Gallantry w Bronze Star and the Cross of Gallantry w Gold Star. After retirement from the Army Shorty managed the local cable TV company in Hinesville and surrounding areas then later served on the board of the Georgia Cable TV association. An avid outdoorsman, Shorty loved fishing and hunting After final retirement he raised exoitic birds from all over the World.
Shorty was preceded in Death by his wife Martha Ann, mother Eva Mae Burdette and father, 5 brothers, Russel, Frank, Harold, Raymond and Thurmond Burdette and Grandson Michael "Tyler" Burdette.
Shorty is survived by 2 sons, Bryan and Michael Burdette, Grandson Jaxen and Brother Virgil Burdette and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Monday September 22, 2025 at 12:30 P.M. at Carter Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday September 22, 2025 at 1:30 P.M. at the chapel of Carter Funeral Home.
Burial will immediately follow the service at Glennville Veterans Memorial Cemetery with Full Military honors,
